Getting signed up

How do I create my account?

It’s simple. Click the “Sign up” button at the right top corner of the Unicheck website. Enter your name, email address, occupation, and create a password. When done, click the “Sign up” button. Within five seconds, you will receive an email. Click on the button in the email to verify your email address. Now you will be able to login to Unicheck.

How do I know if my registration was successful?

If you received an email with confirmation, this is a good sign. If you cannot see the email in your inbox folder, check your spam folder then. After you find the email, click on the button to verify your email address. Now you may go to your dashboard.

When is my account activated?

Your account is activated as soon as you have verified your email by clicking on the button in the email. Next, we suggest that you carefully read our Terms and Conditions and then choose a pricing plan that suits you the best to fund your account.

Can I use Unicheck without signing up?

You are welcome to test our system within the word limit of 500 words. You can run 3 checks without signing up.

How do I change my password?

After signing in, you may change the password to your personal account at any time in your profile settings. You will be prompted to enter your old password as well as the new one and confirm it.

What if I use a wrong email when signing up?

In this case, you should register once again with the correct email address, otherwise you will not receive the verification email.

Why can’t I login after signing up?

One of the most probable reasons is that you have not verified your email. To do it, check your mailbox and find a letter from Unicheck. If you don’t have the email in your inbox, check the spam folder. If that doesn't help, contact our Support team.

Running checks

How accurate are the similarity checks?

Unicheck uses live web index to check your files against billions of web pages and more than 3000 open access sources. To ensure you get accurate search results, it checks the relevance of each source before including it into the report.

How can I check my papers for similarities?

You can run checks for similarity both across the internet and all the documents uploaded to your Library. If the latter is of no help for you, please navigate to “System Settings” and disable "Check vs Library".

What is “Check vs Library” and how does it work?

“Check vs Library” lets you run a similarity search within your database (all the files uploaded to your Library). To view the list with Library sources matching your checked text, click the “Detailed report” button and then the “Library” button at the top of the report page. You can skip each source manually or click the “View source” icon to see text matches.

What types of files can I check?

Good news! Unicheck supports almost all text file formats like .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .odt, .ppt, .pptx, .html, .pdf, .pages, .gdoc, and zip archives. For now .jpg and .png are not supported, but these types of files are rarely used for writing papers anyway.

How fast will Unicheck scan my file?

It takes about 4 seconds or less to scan one page. Please note that larger files will take longer time to check. The checking speed also depends on the number of sources where similarities have been found.

Will running a check change formatting of my file?

Almost all checks result in absolutely no changes in the document. Very rarely minor formatting changes might occur as a result of the essential format transformations done by Unicheck. This is to ensure delivering precise search results. Please also note that checked .pages files are displayed as plain text and .gdocs are converted into .doc files.

What languages does Unicheck support?

Unicheck performs checks in English, Spanish, Ukrainian, Dutch, Turkish, French, Russian, German, Croatian, Greek, Armenian, Belgian, and other languages that have the same alphabets.

Will citations be marked as unoriginal text?

Unicheck lets you exclude properly formatted citations and references from search, so that they aren’t regarded as unoriginal ones. You decide whether to omit each of them or not.

Similarity report

What is a similarity report?

It is detailed information on checked documents. Unicheck provides it upon completion of each check. The report highlights text matches and cited sentences, making it easier for you to see the whole picture. It also shows originality and similarity score, list of original sources, and more.

Can I download a similarity report?

Yes. Just click the “Download PDF report” button. Similar to its online version, the downloaded report will include comprehensive information on the checked paper.

How do I interpret a similarity report?

It’s simple. Each report shows potential plagiarism highlighted in yellow, citations in blue, and references in purple. To view the list with links to matching sources, click the “Detailed report” button. Switch between tabs to view matching web or Library sources, or citations and references.

Why are my citations marked as potential plagiarism?

Unicheck recognizes most of the academic formats like APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago, and Turabian. If your citation is marked, check whether it has been formatted correctly or not. If it has, omit it manually in the “Citations” tab.

Can Unicheck omit sources with minor percentage of matches?

Yes. Similarity search settings let you make checks that are more or less sensitive. Just go to “System Settings” and choose to skip sources with percentage of matches less than at least 1% or less than at least 8 words.

How do I see unoriginal text on each matching source?

Unicheck’s report provides you with a list of all matching sources that contain similarities. To see the source page, click “View source” next to the source name. The page will open in the Unicheck interface, with the matching text marked as yellow.

Can I skip certain matching sources from search results?

Yes. You can omit matching sources from search results if necessary, however they will be included in the report under the “Omitted sources” title anyway.

Managing account

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. If you choose to unsubscribe, you need to cancel subscription in your PayPal account, or contact our Support team to help you out. Please note that your unused pages remain on your account balance till the expected expiration date.

Will my pages remain on the balance if I cancel subscription?

Your pages will remain on your balance till the expected expiration date and you are free to use them up within that time period. If you need additional guidance, please contact our Support team.

How do I top up my account?

For all payments, Unicheck uses PayPal. You can top up your Unicheck account the regular way it is done in PayPal. Go to the pricing plan page, choose appropriate plan and proceed to the payment. You will be redirected to your account in PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account yet, a new one will be created automatically. Just have your credit or debit card ready.

What does Unicheck count as one page?

Unicheck uses standard academic requirements to count pages. 275 words constitute one page. This number is used by Unicheck to make calculations of the number of pages checked in your document.

Do you provide any training or support?

Yes, we do both. Unicheck has a friendly Support team who will be happy to guide you through all the available functions in your account. Just email them at support@unicheck.com or take advantage of the live chat.

Why do I need to create my personal database?

It is handy whenever you need to check whether you wrote something of the kind or not. This way you will be able to avoid recycling your own writings and stay unique. To make sure “Check vs Library” is enabled, please go to “System Settings”.

How do I upload files for checking?

There are three options available:

How do I choose a file for scanning?

Select the file by clicking the “Select file” icon displayed on the document, and hit the “Check for similarity” button to start searching for matches. Simple as that.

Can I create folders and move files around in my Library?

Yes. You may move and remove documents; create and remove folders; name and rename files and folders to keep everything in order.

How can I find a document fast in my Library?

Make use of the search option at the top right. Enter the name of that document into the search box and get exactly what you need.

Privacy and security

Will Unicheck save my document after scanning it?

Unicheck doesn’t save uploaded documents or the ones it scans. It can only keep the file index. So all your uploaded files are safe and secure.

Will the information stored on my account remain private?

Yes, it will. Privacy of all data stored in your account is ensured thanks to encryption used by Unicheck to prevent any data leak from happening.

Who can access my database except for me?

Nobody can access your account but you unless you decide to share your login data with somebody else. The Unicheck legal team strongly suggests that you should avoid doing it to prevent any misunderstanding from taking place.

Will my payments be secure?

Yes. We do not collect any of your payment information or personal billing details. We do not store your credit card details either. All payments are processed on a payment processor side according to its privacy and security policy.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. If you need to delete your account at Unicheck, you can contact us and our Support team will handle that for you.
